A day at the beach

Today we brought Ash to Pasir Ris park beach. It was our 2nd attempt at bringing Ash to the beach. The last time we tried, she simply refused to budge an inch when she was put on the sand. But this evening we pesevered. Initially she just stood there on the sand and insisted to be carried, but we ignored her. After about 5-10 mins, realising that we weren't going to carry her, she started poking around in the sand with her spade. Slowly, she started to realise that it was fun and eventually squat down to play in the sand.

Next we encouraged her to walk down to the water's edge without her sandals. Since she didn't quite like the texture of the sand on her feet, I stood her on my feet, held her two hands and slowly walked her down. Each step I took, I dug my feet into the sand so that she could feel the texture of the sand on her feet. We eventually got her walking gingerly over the sand and to the water's edge. Ash has always loved playing with water and once her feet touched the cool sea water, all her uneasiness just disappeared.

All in all, this evening's outing to the beach was a success - she is no longer afraid of walking on sand.
