HFMD - day 3 & 4

So far so good. Ash has been well. She's playing, drinking her milk and water well. No other symptoms except for these spots on her big toe.

Mealtimes have been a little difficult and messy. For yesterday's lunch, she almost finished her pasta with fish and broccoli, but 1/5 of it ended on the floor as she dropped it while trying to feed herself or she spat it out becuase she didn't like the onion, garlic or broccoli stem. Dinner was no different, she ate only a couple of mouthfull of pasta and ended up eating cereal instead.

Anyway, Viv and I are just glad that she's happy.

HFMD - day 1 & 2

So far over the past 2 days, other then her reduced appetite for solids, Ash has drinking and playing well. No fever and no signs of more blisters appearing, in fact, the spots on her palm have almost disappeared. Hopefully this is how it's going to be for the next few days till her next visit to the PD.

Ash's Dictionary :
Drink Milk Water - drinking water from a milk bottle.

HFMD !!!!

It finally happened, Ash was diagnosed with the dreaded Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease at 2130 hrs last night. At about 2050hrs, Viv saw some spots on her palm and we found a couple of faint spots on her feet. Managed to call Dr. Zainal and we're really thankful that he stayed back to see Ash even though it was closing time. We rushed from home to his clinic at Hougang Mall. He did the usual external checks and we held our breaths and hoped it wasn't what was already obvious. He finally checked her throat and confirmed that a collection of blisters had formed at the back......Ash had HFMD. We're now hoping that it will be a mild one for her as I've heard of cases where kids had HFMD but were still active as usual.
The worse of it will be the next 3-5 days when the blisters start to hurt and she doesn't want to eat and drink. So far she's not shown any signs of pain or discomfort.

Just before she slept, she said to us "My birthday coming, you know" - I felt like crying.

"Heavenly Father, watch with us over your child Ashley, and grant that she may be restored to that perfect health which it is yours alone to give; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen."

Fever....Once Again

Ash started coming down with a runny nose on Tuesday. Suspected to have caught it from Natalie who was just warded for Bronchoilitis. It didn't get better by Wednesday, so we brought her to see Dr. Vanessa on Wednesday evening. By some stroke of luck, we managed to be the first to see Dr. Vanessa even though we arrived at 7:15pm. There is usually a queue outside her clinic even before it opens. Anyway, Dr. Vanessa said that if Ash had caught anything from Natalie, it'd be full blown by either Saturday or Sunday. How correct that was, Ash came down with a fever this morning and it hit 39.4 degrees just a couple of hours ago. She appeared to be near to passing out when we decided to adminsiter the Voren supporsitory. Thankfully, after that her temperature started to fall after about 40mins. It's shift duty for Viv and me tonight !

Swimming
Brought Ash swimming at NSRCC this evening. It's been a long time since her last swim. Her last swim session was at the Costa Sands Resort on Sentosa last December. It was a tight squeeze getting her into her bikini. Looks like it's time to buy her a suit.

25 June

Today was Ash's 1st day at Pat's. Mummy spent the day with Ash at Pat's and this was mummy's verdict : chaotic. No one knew which class Ash was supposed to be in, Ash wouldn't let mummy out of her sight, she'd cry if mummy made made any attempt to leave. No diaper checks, nobody asked if Ash needed to drink milk, teacher did not try to bond with Ash, kids were running in and out of the class, bath time was the most dangerous. Usually there are two teachers during bathtime. One bathing the children and one drying and dressing them. But here, one teacher had to do everything. This was an accident waiting to happen.

End of the day wasn't any better; while waiting to be picked up by their parents' one of the Ash's classmate's elder sister came into the class, carried Ash and dropped her down causing her to fall back....all this in front of the teacher. A bad day...mummy was in a pissed off mood.

26 June

Daddy's turn today. Started well, brought Ash in just in time for breakfast. But I made the mistake of sneaking out when Ash wasn't looking and I paid the price, she clung onto me the entire day, cried whenever I tried to put her down. Everyone said it was worse than Monday.

Lunch - Ash fed herself porridge slowly and messily, but it was good to see that she managed to have three helpings. After lunch was bath time, this was a total disaster, she cried and cried and when the bath teacher tried to pacify her, the other child almost slipped and fell. (this was the accident waiting to happen that I said) By this time, I told the teacher that I would take care of Ash so that she could finish bathing the other child. I finally got a breather when I finally patted her to sleep during nap time. At around 3pm, I heard the all too familiar cry, she had woken and could not find me, she clung on again for the rest of the time. We left for home at 5pm sharp.

27 June

Brought Ash back to AK. What a different person she was.

28 June

Decided to give it another shot at Pat's, but the day did not start well. Ash pooed minutes after we were there. So we asked the 2 Chinese teachers if they could wash Ash up, but the reply we got was a shocker : "Oh, you will have to wait for her teacher to come to do that".

I grabbed Ash's hand and said to mummy, "I'll clean her up myself". To make matters worse, there was no wet wipes in the bathroom and mummy had to ask around for wet wipes which no one seemed to where it was !!!! I had just finshed wiping her and was about to wash her up when her teacher came in and took over. Next shocker, her teacher was running a bad flu and cough and gave Ash a kiss on her cheek !!!

By then, our minds were made up. We left after lunch and brought her back to AK.

29 June

Managed to arrange for a trial at her first centre, D-C. In mummy's words, she was out of control. She refused to stay in her class, walked anywhere and everywhere she pleased, demanded to go into the infant's section to see babies, expected to be allowed to play in the walker's section. I was there during my lunch hour (in reality, I was out of office for 2.5hrs) and took over while mummy went for her lunch, and like mummy said, she was out of control.

Day's end couldn't come sooner....mummy said that we won't step home without buying a cane that evening.

So here it is :
