Ash's cough got so much better last week. So good that we did not hear her cough over the weekend and that was because she was home the whole week because of fever and her flight off the bed.
Then she went back to Pat's on the 27 Nov, and within 2 days, her cough was back...with phlegm. And it has progressively gotten worse. WHY ? WHY ? WHY ? WHY ?

We brought her back to EYS last night. I think it's the same medication, hopefully it works again.

Is Barney on his way out of Ash's heart ?

Will the Purple One be replaced by her ?

Thankfully, Ash has shown no ill effects of her dive off the bed on Wednesday night. But this girl still wanted to jump on the bed the next night !!! After I reminded her of fall, would she then stop. Kids, they forget pain real fast. Anyway, here's an update of her Bualuku. It's very obviously yellow now.

We caught these few shots of Ash building her "house" with the Uno Stacko blocks. We were amazed as it was not an easy task for a 2-year old to stack blocks as thin as these.

"House" at 5 blocks high.

Sigh....Ash was jumping on the bed last night, excited at watching Barney. Next thing I knew, she had somehow launched herself, head first, off the bed. Immediately, a monster of a "bualuku" had formed. As Viv and I cradled her while she cried in pain and shock, she suddenly vomitted. The last time I panicked was when she had her fits. Last night was the second time. We rushed her down to KKH AE, and after a quick examination, the doctor ordered a X-ray to make sure there was no fracture, thankfully the result showed none. We were told to monitor her closely for the next 72 hours, the first 24-48 hrs being the most critical.

GUG Class Photo

Viv just received this photo early this morning.

Teacher Florence said that she will be going on a long holiday and may not be able to see some of her class when she comes back in January. So she took this when the class eneded.

Effects of Promethazine

Ash was prescribed Promethazine by KKH for her runny nose and cough. I noticed a change in her mood since we started administering it to her. Last night she woke up crying. She was moody, bad tempered and tempremental the whole of today and just now, she woke suddenly in terror.
So I did some searching on the web and this is what I found :

Children—Serious side effects, such as convulsions (seizures), are more likely to occur in younger patients and would be of greater risk to infants than to older children or adults. In general, children are more sensitive to the effects of antihistamines. Also, nightmares or unusual excitement, nervousness, restlessness, or irritability may be more likely to occur in children. The use of phenothiazine-derivative antihistamines is not recommended in children who have a history of difficulty in breathing while sleeping, or a family history of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) .

Have been hearing of kids coming down with fever alot lately, so it was inevitable that Ash would soon come down with fever too.
On 18 Nov, as I was washing Ash up after doing her "Big One", I noticed that she was uncomfortable when water splashed on her, and when I was drying her, she said " Daddy wipe me, cold cold". That told me something wasn't right, took her temperature and it read 38.9 degrees. Viv hurriedly administered paracetamol. By the time we got to KKH, her fever had come down to 37.2 degrees. Her fever since then has been fluctuating between 37 to 38.2 degrees. Thankfully this time, paracetamol seems to be able to bring it under control. We hope that the fever will break by tomorrow.

Then and Now........

Viv and I were chatting about selling some of Ash's baby stuff, then we thought about her Pooh Walker, remembering the first time she walked with it, so we got Ash to "walk" with her walker again.

It's funny how somethings that we say to our kids sometimes come to embarass us.
Ash at one point liked running out into the hall in her birthday suit during bath times. To discourage her, we'd tell her " Shame shame, Ashley is not wearing any clothes."

We just got out of the lift and were heading home. We turned the corner and met our neighbour watering his plants.....without his top on. And Ash said :" Uncle shame shame" giggling to herself. I hurriedly said my hello and walked briskly towards home, all the while trying hard to stifle my laughter. Ash then added " Shame shame, uncle never wear shirt. "
I fumbled with my keys, trying desperately to open the door. Any longer and it would have been an akward situation as I burst out in muted laughter at home.

Reminded me of the TV show hosted by Bill Cosby, Kids Say the Darndest Things.

We received some none too nice feedback from Ash's teachers yesterday.
Ash has been going around serial beating other kids and she would cry when reprimanded. She would also try to pull anyone sitting in her favourite Little Tikes toy car. There's more, she even tried to beat her teachers !!
We know that she's got a temper, but this is bad. Last night, Viv, sat her down and talked to her, telling her that it was wrong to beat other kids and teachers. Viv role played with her using her toys showing her it was wrong to beat and not share with other kids . Ash seemed to understand, or we hope she understands ! Let's see how it goes today.

On some happier news, since she has been attending Pat's, she's been picking up mandarin. She's able to sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Stars. And this morning, she suprised us. She saw Viv eating bread and asked "好吃?"
Another mandarin word she uses very very often, especially when I wash her hair "不要"

Learning to read

Viv thought of a interesting way to encourage Ash to read....using stickers. Viv would ask Ash what she wants to feed the dinosaur with, Ash will then say the food and stick the sticker beside it.

Whole family woke up late today...a rare occurence. Because of this mummy didn't have time to cook Ash's lunch, so we decided to eat at Crystal Jade. Ordered claypot frog fried with ginger and scallion. Heard that frog is also good for coughs.

Early this morning....

I was woken by the sound of soft whimpering. I opened my eyes to see a pair of eyes staring back at me.
Ash : "Daddy, I don't want sleep."
* I hope it's 6am* I peered at my clock, 2am !! I just went to sleep 2 hours ago !
Me : " Ash, it's late, go back to sleep"
Ash then started her I'm going to cry voice : " Daddy wet, daddy wet".
I felt around her pants, the waist band was wet...leakage. Ash has habit of propping her feet up against anything when she sleeps resulting in urine flowing back. So I spent the next 10 mins cleaning and changing her diaper.
Just as I laid my head on the pillow,
Ash : "Daddy, I want drink milk". So off I went, dragging myself to make her milk. 1 bottle of milk and 10 mins later,
Ash :" Daddy, I want to watch Barney"
Me : " Ash, it's late, we watch Barney in the morning, ok ?"
Ash about to wail : " I want to watch Barney !!"
So off again, to start the darn Barney VCD.
Ash : " Daddy, I want to watch ah ah ah" * this can't be true*
Ah Ah Ah means the song If all the rain drops were lemon drops and gum drops
So I fast forwarded it, 32X speed, to Ah Ah Ah. By the time she was satifsfied, it was just after 3am. When I next opened my eyes, Ash was sound alseep, clock showed 4am.

Later in the evening....

Viv made an appointment for Ash to see the chinese physician at Eu Yan Sang at Hougang Ave 1. After examining her, we were told that Ash didn't have asthma, and he said it was common for children her age to have phlegmy cough. He also commented that doctors are always very fast to prescribe "very strong" medicine. Ash was prescribed some powder to be taken 3 times daily for 5 days. Let's see how it goes.

Sharing a drink with Mummy

Lunch today was at Gleneagles Hospital. Mummy had some internal bleeding in her left eye caused by blowing her nose too hard. Fortunately, the doctor said that it was nothing to worry about as it would heal in about 10 days' time.
We ordered papaya and carrot juice, no ice. Ash enjoyed drinking it, to the extent of drinking from 2 straws simulataneously.

Crocodile Soup

Had dinner this evening at the Imperial Herbal Restaurant & Tcafe at Vivo City. The main reason we went all the way there was for the herbal Crocodile Soup which is suppose to improve immunity and relieve asthma. Ash has been coughing on and off since August, twice diagnosed with bronchitis and recently classified as asthmatic. She's barely been off medications since then. Since we've already tried Western medications, Chinese medications, so why not a little jungle medication..ha ha.
Suprisingly, the soup was not fishy as I had anticipated, maybe because of the herbs and the fact that the crocodile meat had been fried.
Thankfully, Ash took to the soup quite well, even asking for more.

Just placed our orders, mummy is feeding Ash her porridge.
Notice the unique finger chairs ? Looks cool, but defintely not comfortable for dinner.
