X-Ray

Brought Ash for her X-Ray at Sengkang Polyclinic this morning. After mummy had registered her, we waited for about 1/2 hr....in the meantime, Ash entertained herself by walking and singing up and down the corridor.

When it was her turn, at first, she wouldn't let us take her dress off. Afte that she struggled and cried as we tried to get her to lie down. Perhaps it was the cold room and cold x-ray plate that she had to lie on. She cried and cried. Daddy had to put on the protective lead jacket, pin her legs down at the edge of the bed while at the same time pin her arms down to have her X-ray taken. The first shot was a no-go as she had moved and the image was blurred, so we had to go thru the entire process once again. Fortunately, the 2nd shot was good. After that we were told to wait another 1/2 hr for the report to be ready. So as not to waste time, we went over to Compasspoint to do our weekend grocery shopping. Came back 1/2 hr later for the report and we were relieved that it showed a healthy chest.

Talking in her sleep

Ash has been talking in her sleep quite frequently lately. She'll say things like "Noooo, I don't want" and sometimes she'll just babble. I've even seen her smile and laugh in her sleep. Wonder if she is simply too tired from CC ? Should we be worried ?

Today she spent only the morning session at Pat's. Picked her up after lunch and brought her home for mama to look after her. When Viv and I came home this evening, mama said Ash was punishing her by insisting that she sat on her little green stool and not move !

Ash's cough seems a little better today. Keeping fingers crossed.

Finger ! Finger ! FINGER !

2nd Opinion

Last night, Ash was woken from her sleep by a bout of coughing. After patting her back to sleep, I slowly door to closed the cot. The next thing I heard was Ash shouting "finger, Finger, FINGER !!!!" In the darkness and my sleepiness, I failed to notice that her right index finger was still at the edge. Poor Ash cried so loudly.

This evening we brought Ash to see Dr. Zainal for 2nd opinion. She was still coughing very badly at night and sometimes even throwing up. Good news is that her lungs sounded clear, no "crackling" sound heard. Dr. Zainal said that her dosage of Fluimicil seemed a little high and that may have been the reason for the phelgmy coughs at night, so he reduced her dosage to 1/2 a packet twice a day from 1 packet, three times a day. Rhiniramine was changed to Fedac for her runny nose. For her norctunal coughing bouts, she was prescribed Pulmicort which has to sprayed into the Aero Chamber which is placed over Ash's nose for her to breathe in the vapor mist. He also wanted her to do a chest X-ray since she has been coughing for close to a month. We'll be bringing her down to Sengkang Polyclinic to do the X-ray this Friday.

Bronchitis
Ash was diagnosed with Bronchitis yesterday afternoon.
She had been having a runny nose and a cough attributed to the back-flow of muscous for about 2 weeks. Dr. Zainal suspected that it was an allergy as her nose only started to run only at night. We then spring-cleaned the bedroom and it seemed to help. But on Thursday, her cough started to have a phelgmy sound to it and she had vomitted because of it.
So now it seems like her allergy had turned to bronchitis. We brought her to the PD after she had a severe coughing bout where she vomitted the contents of her stomach and lots of phlegm. Dr. Ong said that she had lots of phelgm in her left chest and recommended that she be put on a dose of the nebuliser. He also said that it would be better if she did not attend school for the next few days to aid in her recovery. So I'll be taking 1/2 day tomorrow morning and mama (grandma) will take care of her in the afternoon. Mummy will be taking Tuesday off.
This morning Ash woke at 6:15am and drank her milk and took her medication, a few minutes later, she vomitted out everything after a bout of coughing........and this time is wasn't clear phlegm, it was the thick, greeninsh type, which only meant an infection had set in. So we rushed her down to KKH. Sunday morning at KKH is a breeze compared to the chaotic nights, it took only a few minutes before Ash got to see the MO. She was prescribed antibiotics for the infection.
With the medication, her cough seems better tonight, hopefully she'll be able well enough to go back to playgroup by Wednesday.

The Onion Plant

Science project at GUG today was learning about the onion. They were shown different types of onions; shallots, big onion and the spring onion. They were all given a small onion to plant and were expected to bring it back next week to see the growth progress.

Hooray !! Ashley did not cry this morning when we left her at Pat's. Although she had an apprehensive look on her face, she allowed mummy to pass her to Miss Belle, and when we said our good byes, she even managed to wave good bye to us !!!
I guess she is getting used to childcare. When I arrived this evening to pick her up, she was busy playing on the slide. Before going home, she turned around to wave and say good bye to her friends and teachers.

National Day cum Charity Event
National Day was celebrated at Pat's yesterday. Children and parents were encouraged to come in red and white. At the same time, there was also a Batik painting activity in support of charities under the MCYS. For $25, each child was given a piece of cloth with pre-prepared batik pattern on it and all they had to do was paint over it. Quite a sight. They not only painted the batik, they also painted themselves, parents and the floor ! Fortunately the paint was actually food dye.

Lunch for the kids was rice, fried egg, carrot and fishballs. Ash was a good girl and fed herself and even drank from a cup. Vera's mummy was impressed.

"I want fishballs" was what Ash said when she had finished hers. So I went round looking for more fishballs and managed to get more from Miss Nina. Lunch for me was rice, curry chicken, fried egg, fried peanuts and a stick of otah.

After lunch was bath time for the kids and time for parents to leave. So it was a scene of crying kids and anxious parents. Miss Belle and Ma Lao Shi both said it was an unusual day as literally every kid cried at bath.....Ash no different.

Day 3 at Pat's

Today Mummy an Daddy did not stay. We bid our farewell and left her in the care of Miss Belle and left for work................and she WAILED.
Traffic in the PIE was heavy and frustratingly slow this evening. I reached Pat's at 6:45pm. Fortuantely, Ash wasn't the only kid left. Miss Janet said that she cried less today and participated well in activities that she knew. I guess she is now getting used to the place and hopefully, over time, we'll be able to drop her off without any crying.

2nd Day at Pat's

The day almost started out disastorously. Miss Belle came by and said that she couldn't find any milk powder in Ash's bag, my head spun when I realised that I had forgotten to pack it in. Fortunatlely, KKH was just nearby, so I drove over and bought a small tin. Disaster averted.

Today's plan was to be around yet not around. She cried when I said good bye to her and Miss Belle carried her to class. But after while, I couldn't hear her cries. Throughout the day, I still heard her cries on and off, which I guess is normal in the first week. After her nap, I managed to sneak a peek and saw her sitting on Ms Janet's lap doing art. Then at around 4:45pm, I again sneaked a peek and saw her chasing bubbles in the playground with the other kids. When I finally picked her up at 5:45pm, she walked out with her little backpack and gave me smile and a hug. Ms Janet said that although she cried a little today, overall she had been a good girl.

1st day at Pat's Schoolhouse, Halifax

We started talking to her about her new school last night, trying to get her excited about it. Hoping that it'll help her settle in a lot faster.
Mummy accompanied her this morning. First stop was the playground, initially she seemed a little hesitant, but soon warmed up...just a little bit. Her teacher was Miss Belle, who was on-hand to befriend her.
According to Viv, she participated in the class activities and even sang Twinkle Twinkle Little Star in mandarin. And for lunch, she had two helpings of rice and soup. Shower time wasn't too good, I could hear her cries when I brought Viv's lunch. After her shower, Miss Belle and Viv, brought Ash to the sleeping room, gave her milk and patted her to sleep. When she woke, she then spent the rest of the afternoon without mummy's presence, which is a huge improvement over her time at Katong.
Tomorrow is daddy's turn to accompany her.....hopefully I don't mess it up.
